Welcome to The Wingate Special Children's Trust

.

.

Established in 1988 and based in rural Cheshire, The Wingate Special Children’s Trust is an independent Charity devoted to enriching the lives of children and young people with profound disabilities or those who are disadvantaged. The Wingate Centre, Wrenbury near Nantwich, comprises of a 7,000 square foot, fully fitted gymnasium and a 23-bedroom residential accommodation building.

In our gymnasium, under the guidance of our professional coaches, we carry out a wide range of activities. At one end of the spectrum we train disability gymnasts up to the level of Special Olympic standard. Alongside this, we provide recreational sessions for youngsters who, because of their disabilities or challenging behavioural problems, cannot use normal sports centres. At Wingate, in a safe and private environment, they can have all of the fun that mainstream children take for granted.

During the last five years, we have raised over £300,000 to convert what was a disused isolation hospital into a 23 Bedroom holiday centre providing experiential learning residential breaks for some of the country’s most severely disabled children, children who may not otherwise have the opportunity for a holiday.

Our Vision-

Our aim is to ensure that every child, regardless of ability, has the opportunity for a break away from home or school with children their own age so that they can foster independence, develop their social and behavioural skills and build their self-confidence through inclusion, recognition and encouragement.

Programmes and Activities-

The Wingate Special Children’s Trust is dedicated to:

1. Enriching the lives of children and young people with profound, multiple disabilities and those who are disadvantaged.
2. Promoting inclusion and access for all.
3. Developing and improving the confidence, behaviour, discipline and social skills of each child.
4. Improving each child’s health and fitness through regular exercise with our specialist coaches.
5. Encouraging disabled and non-disabled children to interact with one another.

We are totally committed to ensuring that our innovative Charity continues to enrich the lives of these very special children.
